Teenager seriously injured in Kingston bus crash

A teenager is in hospital with a serious head injury after being hit by a bus in Kingston town centre.

The man was struck by a Kingston University campus bus in Penrhyn Road at roughly 11.30am this morning.

The driver of the bus stopped at the scene and has been detained by police. No arrests have been made.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: “Officers attended the scene with London Ambulance Service and London Air Ambulance colleagues.

“They discovered a male pedestrian, believed to be aged 18, who had been in a collision with a bus.

“He has been conveyed to a south London hospital with a serious head injury. We await an update on his condition.”

Penrhyn Road was closed in both directions for several hours after the incident, and all local buses were subject to diversion.

The incident is the third serious road traffic collision to occur in Kingston town centre in less than a week.

On Monday, a pedestrian needed treatment after being  knocked down by a motorcycle  in Eden Street.

And last Friday, a female was left in a critical condition after being hit by a car in Kingston Hall Road.
